Diamond Gatefold card

Here's a tutorial on how to make this Diamond Gatefold card.

These are the supplies I used, but of course you can vary your colour scheme and stamp sets and embellishments.
The one I made on my blog called Garden Dream on June 30th was an A4 size card - in Europe these measurements are different from the US and Canada,
so I've tweaked it and made it so that it will fit into a C6 envelope.

Papers:                                                                            Ink:                                        Stamps:
1 x 10 1/2" x 5 3/4" Almost Amethyst              Lavender Lace                   Bird on a Branch
1 x 5 1/2" x 3 1/4" Lavender Lace                       Almost Amethyst             Occasional Greetings
1 x 5" x 3" Almost Amethyst                                  Chocolate Chip                  Bella Toile
2 x 5 1/2" x 1 1/2" Lavender Lace
2 x 5 1/4" x 1 1/4" Almost Amethyst
Whisper White scraps
Lavender Lace scraps

Accessories :
1 3/4" circle punch                                                                Trimmer
2" scallop circle punch (non SU)                                      Snail
Square scallop punch                                                           Sponge dauber
1/4" Whisper White grosgrain ribbon

Take your 10 1/2" x 5 3/4" Almost Amethyst with long edge at the top and bottom.  Score at 1 3/4", 3 1/2", 7" and 8 3/4".       Make a mark at 5 1/4" top and bottom but DO NOT score all the way down.  The 5 1/4" is the centre point of what will be the back panel of your base card.

Use a bone folder to make sharp creases on all score lines.

Turn card over to the back and use the point of the bone folder at the 5 1/4" mark to assist you in folding the corners back as illustrated in the picture above.

Open out the folds again and turn it back to the front.

This is where the magic happens, invert the folds you've just made from the back and it should look like the picture above.

Now to tackle cutting out the mats. Next take the 5 1/2" x 3 1/4" piece of Lavender Lace card stock and with short side on top and bottom, measure 1 5/8" from the left edge (doesn't matter which side you do it, it's equidistant being the centre!)  Do the same for the other short side on the bottom.

Now turn the card stock 90 degrees so the long side is on the top and bottom and measure 1 3/4" in from the left and 1 3/4" from the right.  You can see it better in the diagram above.  Draw a diagonal line as a cutting guide between these reference points from the 1 5/8" centre point on the short side to the 1 3/4 " in from each edge on the long side.  The hashed greyed out areas are the bits you discard.

Still with me?  Take the 5" x 3" Almost Amethyst piece and repeat the procedure using the measurements in the picture above.

You're ready now for some glueing and sticking!   Apply adhesive to the two pieces of 5 1/2" x 1 1/2" Lavender Lace cardstock and adhere to the left and right gatefold panels on the front.  Apply adhesive to Mat 1 and adhere to back panel.

It should look like this when you've completed the first stage of assembly.

Ink  the Bella Toile background stamp with Lavender Lace ink and stamp on the Almost Amethyst coloured Mat 2 as well as the two pieces of   5 1/4" x 1 1/4"  Almost Amethyst cardstock.

Apply adhesive to the pieces that have been stamped and adhere to the card as illustrated above.

Next punch out a 1 3/4" circle from Whisper White scrap  and stamp your images with the Bird on a Branch stamp set.           The branch and bird were stamped  in Chocolate Chip and the rest in Lavendar Lace and then adhered to a 2" scalloped Lavender Lace circle.    Adhere the scalloped circle bird image to the centre back panel.

Punch a square scallop for matting with the square scallop punch.    Cut a small square of Whisper White and stamp "for you" from Occasional Greetings randomly and then stamp over it again with the speckly stamp from Bird on a branch.   Ink  the edges before adhering to the scalloped square.  Apply adhesive to the left hand side only of the scalloped square and tuck the Whisper White ribbon underneath before  adhering it to the left gatefold.  You're done!

 This is the card closed.

......and here it is opened.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial.  See, I do listen and value your comments. So Elin and Elizabeth, this is specially for you!
It's been quite a learning curve as working on this page and this type of format is different from blogging.  I can do that with my eyes shut, but this was trial and error so it took me rather longer than I had intended - almost a day (shock, horror), but I've achieved it now and hopefully it won't take me so long next time!

I'd love to see your creations, please provide a link back to me so that I can see your wonderful work!
